How to Keep Your Home Safe During Winters?

It doesn’t matter where you live because winter is the same everywhere unless you’re living in the Southern Hemisphere and there’s summer there. But, apart from that, winter means the time has finally come to pull out your jackets, boots, thermal layers, gloves and your snow shovels.

To help you prepare in the best possible manner for the upcoming winter season, we are sharing some personal as well as home inspection tips that you can follow. These tips will keep you as well as your family members safe – as suggested by home inspection in Ottawa services.

Winter Home Tips

  • The Rooftops

When winter storms tend to cover the roof of your home with snow, it’s not particularly safe to go there personally and inspect the same. This is because the slippery surface can prove to be a significant hazard.

But, what you can do is – use your trusty old binoculars or better a drone for that matter – and then inspect your rooftops. Furthermore, it would be best if you also listed out the same in your trusty old diary so that you don’t forget about the same later on. You can perform this check once-per-week.

  • Using Ladders

It should be realised that using ladders in an outdoor condition and that too on a surface that is filled with snow, can be indeed hazardous. Therefore, it’s suggested that you use stools for the same, and since stools come with four legs, there are fewer chances of slipping.

However, if you have to use a ladder and there’s no alternative, then it’s suggested that you use ladders that come with a replacement rubber foot – making them less slippery on a snowy surface.

What To Wear During Winters?

To help you beat the cold winter, we’ll be suggesting the following to wear:

  • Always wear a hat to keep your face and hair from getting messed up when the cold wind blows and also from falling snow.
  • Use a knit mask to cover your mouth and nose.
  • Proceed to use some goggles to protect your eyes. However, if you use reading glasses, then the same might not be possible.
  • Wear gloves, especially when going out to perform any serious activities.
  • Put on shoes and coat that are water-resistant so that you don’t have to worry about the moisture.
  • Proceed to wear several layers of clothes because winter is the only season when layering works perfectly.

You should always ensure that your outer clothing is very tightly woven and is also resistant towards wind so that body heat loss can be reduced. Some of the best materials for the same would be wool and polyester. You should not be wearing cotton clothes in the winter.
