Dolly Parton’s Book Program: What Motivated It?

Dolly Parton, a country music star, credits her father for inspiring her to create the Imagination Library. Dolly’s father couldn’t read and write because he didn’t have the chance to go to school as a child. He worked hard to support his wife and twelve children in East Tennessee’s mountains.

Dolly saw her father struggling because he couldn’t read, so she created a fun way for kids to learn how to read. 3

Dolly was born in Sevier County, Tennessee, in 1995. One thousand seven hundred sixty books were ordered as the first order.
