I love cooking just as much as I love exercising. That is A LOT! In fact I have had several jobs in the food industry because I love being around food so much. (I guess that is why I have to love exercising )When fall comes creeping in so does the seasonal recipes, comfort food, and family gatherings. It is the best time of year. Come on, you know your recipes pins have tripled recently!!
Favorite Family Recipes started off as a blog and a way for sisters to swap their favorite recipes. Turns out, other people wanted their recipes too! They aren’t professional chefs, just moms that love to cook delicious food for their family. They continue to share their recipes on their blog, but have also published a cookbook! Their cookbook features more than 175 recipes, including restaurant copy cats!
Is your mouth watering? Mine is! This cookbook really is a must have for any apron wearing home chef. Inside you will find appetizers, drinks, breads, soups, sandwiches, salads, entrees, side dishes, breakfast, desserts, recipes for kids, and restaurant copy cats. All of these recipes are family favorites. They aren’t just a recipe to fill up the book. They are the yummy ones that you make over and over again by request. On of my favorite things about Favorite Family Recipes is that every page has a picture!! I love deciding what to cook by looking at the picture. Plus, it is also nice to know what it is supposed to look like.
The first recipe I made was suggested by Echo Blickenstaff, one of the authors. I made Chicken Pot Pie Crumble. Echo says that this recipe is her kids favorite from the book. It was very easy to make! The directions were easy to follow, a great recipe for new cooks all the way to professionals. I served it to my husband, son, mother, and sister-in-law. There were even leftovers for the next day. Everyone loved it! I liked it because you don’t make it with any “cream of” soups. I was just a good, warm, yummy dish for an autumn evening. I asked my husband if this was a recipe he would crave and he said, “Yes! Will you make it tomorrow!?” My son doesn’t eat veggies unless they are hidden in fruit. He ate this! In fact he gobbled it up!
Next I made the Mexican Lasagna. So easy and so quick! Just brown up the meat, layer in the pan, and bake. Wa-lah! Dinner is served! I served this to my son, husband, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and two family friends. We scarfed it down and went back for seconds! I am not a spicy person. I am talking I often dip my chips in ranch at restaurants because their salsa is too spicy. This was not spicy at all. I didn’t have to tailor the recipe for myself and my one year old. Perfect! I asked my husband if he liked it better than the Chicken Pot Pie Crumble and he said, “They are both A’s. If they were both in a contest they would both be first place winners.” Everyone thought it was “delicious”, “yummy”, and “whoa! this is good!”
I also made the Apple Crisp. How can anyone go through fall without indulging in a good home baked apple crisp? I made this while the Mexican Lasagna was in the oven and popped it in while we ate. It was another easy recipe! The hardest part was peeling the apples, which let’s face it, is easy! Hey, if you have a peeler this recipe will FLY together. We dished this bad boy up with some french vanilla ice cream. Let the “ummmmm!” begin! Everyone was goo goo ga ga over it. This is another MUST MAKE AGAIN for sure!! One of our friends that ate it said, “I don’t normally like fruit in my dessert, but this, I love!” 6 adults ate on this (good sized portions) and there were still leftovers!
On my fall “to make” list are:
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread
Sweet Dijon Pork Chops
Chicken Massaman Curry
Caramel Apple French Toast
Our Version of Sizzler’s Malibu Chicken
My husband and I have also decided that we are making the Hot Citrus Cider Powered Drink Mix to give to our neighbors this holiday season! Can’t wait!
This recipe book would make a great gift this holiday season. Pair it with an apron, some kitchen tools, and a grocery gift card for a present to remember. It is perfect for a mom, dad, college student, friend, sister, neighbor, any one that loves to cook! Pick up a copy HERE
I have a treat for you today! My friend from high school and one of the authors of Favorite Family Recipes, Erica, is giving one of our readers a copy of the cookbook!
