The Power of Touch {Laura Lacey Baby Massage DVD Review & Giveaway}

3 1/2 weeks until my little man will make his grand appearance!  I am getting soooo antsy!  It is going to be so fun to see what he looks like, hold him in my arms, and be a mommy for real!

I am nervous though.  What if my baby has colic or is really gassy?  This could really cause for some very patient moments.  Not only that but no mommy wants to see their little tiny baby not feeling it’s best.  What will I do?  How can I make life easier for baby?

Laura Lacey, a licensed and nationally certified massage therapist, knows just what to do to help soothe baby.  She uses the magic of touch!

Baby Massage — The Gift of Love is a DVD that teaches you how to show love using the power of touch.  It also teaches you how to help soothe common baby problems, such as colic, gas and teething, using the power of touch!

The DVD is broken down by chapters so you can learn about the basics and then concentrate on a certain area or comforting the baby for a specific cause.  After watching the DVD I felt confident that when my little man comes I will be able to give some some good lovin’ and make him feel relaxed and happy.

Get an idea of what Baby Massage — The Gift of Love is by watching a short video on Laura’s website.

Splashing Good Time { Bubbble Guppies review}

I have to admit I try to limit the amount of TV my little munchkin watches… who out there agrees? :-) While we do have a small, and growing collection of favorites, I do my best to limit his time with the “tube”. Now, I will admit sometimes, like when I HAVE to make dinner, for example, when no other distractions or toys will get his attention, I do turn on something for him to enjoy. We recently were generously given the opportunity to add to our collection with a fun, new DVD  from Paramount Home Media starring Nickelodeon’s Bubble Guppies! Bubble Guppies is Nickelodeon’s top -rated pre-school series, and this is the first ever DVD! I had never heard of them before, but was super excited to see what it all about. The DVD we received has 3 awesome episodes on it.

The first one is also a double- length feature. It is Bubble Puppies Fin-Tastic Fairy Tale!

“Once upon a time, Molly and Gil went up a hill to fetch a pail of water. But when a mean Witch, played by Wanda Sykes, turns Bubble Puppy into a frog, Molly and Gil enlist the help of some famous fairytale friends to undo her mean green spell.  They better work fast or else no one in the Enchanted Forest will live happily ever after!”

The next one is was Bubble Puppy

“Gil wants to adopt a puppy after seeing one he really likes at the adoption center, but the Bubble Guppies have to learn how to take care of a pet before he can bring it home.”

The last one was Bubble Bites

“Ms. Pinkytoe, a friendly crab, gives Gil a few Bubble Bites to feed to Bubble Puppy.  Bubble Puppy wants more food so the guppies head to the supermarket.  They discover there is one box of Bubble Bites left and both Gil and Ms. Pinkytoe want it, so they must compete in a Bubble Bites biathlon. Will Gil get more Bubble Bites to feed Bubble Puppy? Or will Ms. Pinkytoe get them for her dog, Bud?”
All of the episodes were super cute and fun! Who doesn’t love a good story about courage, strength teamwork and doing what’s right? There are also some great bonus features including a “Create your Own Bubble Guppy” game. 2 karaoke music videos, and a juke box song selection.

This is a great addition to our collection and I’m sure you will find it great to yours, especially if your kiddos already love the series! The DVD run time is approx. 88 minutes and  retails for $16.99. It can be found where other children’s media is available! Happy splashing! :-)

Gabba Time! {Yo Gabba Gabba: Super Spies DVD Review}

Hey Gabba Land Lovers!  DJ Lance Rock and the Gabba Gang star in another fantastic DVD, Yo Gabba Gabba: Super Spy DVD.  Jason Bateman makes an appearance in the episode “Super Spies” as a bad spy named, Bateman.  He steals Gabba Land’s ballon art only to be lead through a musical adventure and recovery mission.  There are 3 additional episodes, including Mystery, Space and Big.  All 4 episodes are full of fun and music.  Theya re sure to get your little to get your little one’s attention.  Chances are, they will be up and dancing with the Gabba Gang.

Mia loves Yo Gabba Gabba because of the music and fun.  To be honest, it drives me a little bit crazy.  It is a little too over the top for me.  But, hey…when will I ever be in love with everything my kids watch?! :)

A Sweet Love Story {The Lucky One Movie Review}

I am a BIG Nicholas Sparks fan!  Every book I have read of his has been amazing!  They always pull me in and by the end I am saying WHAT??  After I am finished with his books, I usually see the movie.  I like to see how they compare…book usually wins, but I like to see how an actor portrays this person that I only have a mental picture of.  Some of the movies I have loved, but most of the time I find myself leaning over to my hubby saying “wrong.” “Nope…didn’t happen like that.”  I had not yet read the book, The Lucky One, and a friend told me it was coming out as a movie, a week later the book was done and I was sitting the the theater.

“U.S. Marine Sergeant Logan Thibault (Efron) returns from his third tour of duty in Iraq, with the one thing he credits with keeping him alive—a photograph he found of a woman he doesn’t even know.  Learning her name is Beth (Schilling) and where she lives, he shows up at her door, and ends up taking a job at her family-run local kennel.  Despite her initial mistrust and the complications in her life, a romance develops between them, giving Logan hope that Beth could be much more than his good luck charm. ”

I was super excited to see this movie!!  I did have a hard time picturing Zac Efron as Logan, since in the book he is described as a long-haired drifter, and I will always think of him as Mr. High School Musical….ya gotta get your head in the game :) Once again, I sat through the movie ,this time with a friend of mine (who has read the book as well) leaning over saying “wrong”.  Let’s put it this way, the movie was SUPER good!  I really liked it!  The acting was good, story good….popcorn good! ;) BUT….if you have read the book, know that it has the same idea and few little matching details here and there, but noticeably different.  You will still like it, but it is different.  I think I would have liked the movie a lot more if I hadn’t read the book.

Just a heads up to the moms out there that may want to take a little lady with them to the movie:  There is a steaming love scene.  In my opinion, it is a little too long, and a little too graphic.  I don’t need to see all of that to get the gist of what they are doing.  But you see lots of thrusting and touching.  For PG-13, I was a little surprised.  It was long enough that I was uncomfortable and would have been squirming in my seat if my 11 year old daughter was with me!!  Violence wise, there is a little bit…he was in the Marines and there are a couple of battle scenes.  Language wise…just a couple of bad words, no F bombs though :)

Go with a girlfriend and see it!  It’s cute!  I didn’t even cry!  Thought I would, but I didn’t! :)

This is a must see DVD if your little one likes to spin and twirl.  It is a great deal to get all 3 DVDs for less then $20!  I love that all of the episodes have a little bit of lesson they teach.  In fact, Mia quoted one to me the other day…who knew they were actually getting something out of it :)   This DVD quickly became a favorite at our house…and the neighbors house, too.  The little neighbor girls is always asking if Mia can come over and bring her dancing movie…wouldn’t be easier just to borrow the movie? ;) Real Mom and the little neighbor girl approved!

Hollywood High {Victorious Season 2 Review}

My kids love to watch Nickelodeon.  It has been a staple in our house for a long time.  One of their favorite shows is Victorious.  They think it is such a funny show!  They love that the kids go to a school where they sing, dance and act.  It makes the show a little different then the rest of the other shows out there.   This DVD is a 2 disk collection of the 12 episodes from season 2.

Disc 1: Beck Falls for Tori

Helen Back Again

Locked Up (TV Movie)

Tori Gets Stuck

Tori Tortures Teacher

Jade Gets Crushed
Disc 2: Who Did it to Trina?

Beggin’ on Your Knees

Ice Cream for Ke$ha

Prom Wrecker

Terror on Cupcake Street

Blooptorious

If you are in need of a few good laughs…cheesy, but good….Victorious is a good choice.  Hailee said the DVD was funny, no hilarious…minus the bad words.  I reassured her that there wasn’t any bad words in it.  She apparently considers “dog backwards” to be a bad enough word that it bothered her.  So, heads up moms, they say Oh my Go* in this show.  Enjoy!  Real Mom Approved!

The Fairest of Them All {Mirror Mirror Movie Review}

I don’t like to go to a movie knowing much more then a brief synopsis of what the movie is about.  If I know more then that, then I expect things out of the movie…you know, if you heard that it is hilarious then you go and it is funny, but not hilarious and you are let down.  Well, I went to see Mirror Mirror with my family and of course “expected” it to be like Disney’s Snow White.  Well, hate to spoil anyone else expectations of this movie, but there are no swarming/singing animals, no singing into a wishing well, and certainly no Hi Ho-ing.  This isn’t your mama’s Snow White  movie….it’s BETTER!

One of the most beloved stories of all time is coming to life in the motion picture Snow White legend, Mirror Mirror. A fresh and funny retelling of the Snow White legend, Mirror Mirror features breakout star Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, a princess in exile, and Oscar®-winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom. Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over.  The film also stars Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the Prince, and Nathan Lane (The Birdcage) as the hapless and bungling servant to the Queen.

With just the tiniest of similarities to the original movie, this is a super fun twist on an old fairy tale.  It was simply magical to watch.  It made us laugh, smile, and put my kids on the edge of their seat.  There is love, magic and sword fights….a little something for everyone.  Julia Roberts, who is one of my faves, is surprisingly evil. She makes a super villain, which you don’t get to see out of her very often.  When I asked Josh what he thought of the movie he said, “It was a great family movie.  The kids loved it, but it was adult enough that I enjoyed it, too.”  For my hubby to like a “kid” movie….now that is success!  I was impressed that there wasn’t a single swear word and not any “questionable material” that I would have been uncomfortable with my kids seeing.  I hate going to a movie and thinking “I hope my kids don’t get that” or worse, repeat that.  No need to worry in this flick, everything is magical and wonderful!

My hubby, kids and I attend the screening and we all left with smiles on our faces.  You are sure to love this movie!  It is a MUST see and Real Mom (and her family…including the hubs) Approved!

The next hero is Fireman Sam.  It was a new one to us, and definitely a keeper.  Mia loved seeing Sam be the hero!  There are 2 fab episodes including Off Duty Sam” and “Fireman James.”   One thing I love about the Fireman Sam series is that it helps kids understand fireman are our friends and they work really hard to help others.

To the Rescue! { Awesome Adventures: Rescue Friends DVD Review}

Spring is finally starting to peak around the corner in my neck of the woods. And  I do mean peak. Some days we have fantastic weather, then other days it’s all rain, wind, nasty outside. My little guy LOVES being outside. I think he would live out there if I let him…. and he’s only 18 months! On the days it is nice, boy have we been outside  A LOT! But the other not so nice days? Well, it’s inside we stay and play instead. I’m not a fan of plopping my kiddo in front of the TV… and at this age he doesn’t stay put for many things on the TV. We have our collection of “educational Einstein ” DVD’s, but only those hold his attention for so long. And sometimes Momma needs to actually make something at the stove! So, when we were given the chance to try out Awesome Adventures: Rescue Friends, a new DVD collection from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment, I jumped at the chance.

Awesome Adventures: Rescue Friends

An all-new line just for boys is coming to the rescue!  Awesome Adventures features six episodes from your favorite preschool characters Thomas & Friends™, Fireman Sam™, and Bob the Builder™ in Awesome Adventures: Rescue Friends available March 13 on DVD, Digital Download, and On Demand from Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment.  Join your friends for these thrilling episodes as they act with courage, heart and selflessness to help their friends and save the day!

Calling all heroes!  Spencer shows his mettle when he steams through thick fog to rescue Percy while Toby’s new whistle rings friends and animals to safety! Bob the Builder’s Machine Team helps Scratch out of a sticky situation, as Dizzy surprises her friends – and herself – when she turns a big mistake into a great success.  Fireman Sam proves that a hero’s work is never done and James learns that some rescues are best left to the professionals. Everyone is racing to the rescue in this exciting collection from your favorite preschool friends!

Now I didn’t think My little guy would be quite old enough for it, but I figured we’d see how it went and save it for later if needs be. Boy was I surprised!! He LOVE it! The first time I put it in, he sat on my lap, worked on his thumb and ear, and watched four out of six episodes! Now he asks for it almost everyday! I have to come up with creative alternatives so we aren’t watching TV all day! :-) I really love how wholesome the episodes are. Each one teaches something about helping others and being kind, polite and such. I also love the cute little songs that go with each one! We sing them…well, I sing them and he bobs to them! It is so fun! We LOVE this collection and you will too!!  Look for this DVD collection where other Lionsgate and HIT Entertainment children’s DVD’s are sold! For more information about other great collections and such from HIT Entertainment, check out their website.

Don’t Look Back {Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire Review}

Who knew that Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby could sing?  Throw in a few singing vampires and you have a hit!!  The crew stars in their first ever animated musical/movie, Scooby-Doo! Music of the Vampire.

“Get set for big laughs, good times and cool tunes with the Scooby-Doo gang as they travel to the super spooky parts of the Deep South for the Vampire-Palooza Festival. The event kicks off with good fun and lots of tasty Southern snacks, but it’s not long before the festivities are interrupted by a real vampire who threatens the townsfolk and tries to take Daphne for his vampire bride!

Good thing our intrepid heroes don’t believe in the bloodsuckers — or do they? Packing a little garlic never hurt anyone, except a vampire, and so the gang sets out to investigate. Could the culprit be the descendant of a famous vampire hunter who is trying to sell his book? Or is it the festival’s owner, who is trying to use vampire lore to promote the fair? Maybe it’s the festival’s traveling musical troupe, whose very handsome lead singer is taking his vampire role just a little too seriously?

Things get more complicated when Shaggy, believing he’s been bit by a vampire, decides to hide from his friends in the swamp, but his loyal friend Scooby-Doo will not abandon him. And when Daphne goes missing, can Fred and Velma bring everyone together to prevent her from becoming the vampire queen? Everything culminates in a not-to-be-missed song-filled showdown in the swamp!”

http://shutterandcut.com/WB/ScoobyDoo_MOTV/ScoobyDoo_MOTV_DontLookBack.mov

The minute my kids saw the DVD/Blu-Ray sitting on the counter, it was a mad dash to get it playing.  One grabbed the box and began ripping the wrapper off.  The second turned on the TV and DVD player, while the third got treats ready.  Mia, she just sat and waited for the fun to begin.  We have always loved Scooby at our house, but this DVD is a fun twist on the original show.  My kids loved the movie!  They think vampires are pretty cool, so for them to have a movie that combines and a little scare with a little silly, they were thrilled!  Once the movie was over, they karaoked….over and over.  At the end of the movie is about a 15 minute karaoke segment where you can sing with Shaggy and the gang.  Mia begged to take it to the sitters house the next day.

The movie was perfect!  It was funny, silly and perfectly Scooby!  Rhu-Row! :) Real Mom and Kiddo’s Approved!
