Let it Grow {Miracle-Gro Kids Kit Review}

I love the idea of a garden.  I don’t love all of the time and work that goes into it…I am secretly grateful for that pesky gopher that has been living in my backyard (preventing our garden planting) for the last two years.  So when the opportunity came to have a tiny little garden in my kitchen, we went for it!  Miracle-Gro sent a Disney Mickey Mouse Greenhouse for us to try out our green thumbs on.

I talked my kids into waiting a day or two after delivery to start the growing…that way Josh could do all of the work and I could take pictures.  The instructions were very easy to follow and before long the kids had Mickey all put together and they were ready to plant the seeds.  The kit came with 3 different kids of seeds, soil, and a planting sticks.  Josh helped dig the holes while the kids very carefully dropped the seeds in the holes.  Mia got to put the labeling sticks in the cups, so we would remember what had been planted in each cup.  She was very impressed with the Mickey and Goofy ones.  With one last drink of water, the lid was placed over the top and the greenhouse was placed in the kitchen window.

About 3 weeks later, we have some baby tomato plants and cucumber plants growing in our cute little terrarium.  We only had to water them once or twice because the moisture collected on the top and would keep the plants moist.  Every morning the kids all take a good peek at their plants and have shown them off to their friends.  They can’t wait to finally have veggies on their plants…we better plan on replanting them before them.

Gardening isn’t just for Grandpa…kids can do it, too.  They were thrilled as Josh taught them about how the green house worked and how the plants were going to grow.  What a wonderful way to teach kids about gardening.  Miracle-Gro also has all kids of other fun kids gardening kits. Real Mom Approved!!

Have you ever read the label on any of your cleaning products?  I’ll give you a dollar if you call spell all of the ingredients, let alone say them ;)   Let’s just say, not only was I SHOCKED to see the mixture of stuff that I was subjecting my kids to everyday…but also scared to death!  I believe in having my kids help out around the house and doing chores.  Therefore, my kids USE these products a couple of times a week.  I had to rethink that…until I saw that Shaklee products have absolutely no harmful products in them.  Chores are back on kids!!

I am also thrilled with the idea of using a concentrate to mix up a bottle of cleaner at a time!  I was given three different spray bottles that I was able to mix up three different strengths of cleaners.  First is the window/glass cleaner.  I will admit that I have been sold on the “brand” name products of glass cleaner.  I have used the “off-brand” and everything I had cleaned ended up streaky and needing to be re-cleaned.  The Shaklee concentrate made into glass cleaner is amazing!  We cleaned windows, glass, and mirrors and there wasn’t  a streak to be found.  We use a lot of hair spray at our house and it even got that off the mirror!  The next bottle is an all-purpose cleaner.  We cleaned counter tops, mopped the floor, and my favorite use was a spot cleaner when we cleaned carpets.  It worked incredibly well without a soapy residue or build-up.  Better than the bottles that you pay $6-$8 for…plus you can refill it when it is gone!  The third bottle, a degreaser.  This is the one that has the most concentrate in it so it has the most cleaning power.  I haven’t used this one as much as the others…which I am hoping is a good sign that my house isn’t “greasy” :)  I did clean the microwave and the stove top with it, only to be continually impressed.

On laundry day, I had Josh give the laundry products a try.  That’s right…Josh.  Yup, my hubby does all of the laundry!  Amazing, right?!  So according to him, the laundry soap was great.  He was impressed that he didn’t have to use very much for the size of the load he was doing.  He also used the laundry booster…again, impressed.  (he is a man of few words when I ask for his opinion on the laundry detergent.) He did notice less static in the clothes as he pulled them out of the dryer, thanks to the dryer sheets.  The only thing he mentioned was that all of the products are scent-less.  That can be a plus or a minus.  I like pulling out my sheets and having them smell clean and fresh, but I understand him not wanting to pull out his police uniform and smelling like vanilla cherry blossoms.

The liquid dish soap is AMAZING!  Talk about grease be gone!  If your dirty dishes can go in the dishwasher, then the dish washing detergent is the way to go!  It rinsed really clean…even with our rock hard water!  Either way, the dish washing soaps make the job tons easier!

My kids favorite of all of the products was the cleaning wipes.  They are perfect for bathroom or kitchen touch ups.  My favorite part is that I can hand the container to my kids and not worry about them cleaning.  I am able to let them have the responsibility to help clean, but not worry if they are going to get totally sick doing it….they may get sick OF doing it, but not because of the products they are using.

Silky and Smooth {Fairy Tales Hair Care Review}

Between me and my 3 little girls, we have A LOT of hair!  Just ask my husband.  He is forever cleaning out the drain in the shower or the brush of the vacuum.  Gross, I know.  But when you have girls, you have hair!  (I think he is just grossed out by it cuz he is bald :) )  We spend a lot of time washing, brushing, blow drying, curling and styling a 4 of our head of hair every morning.  If there was something I could do to make any of those things easier or faster, I would!  Oh wait!  Fairy Tale’s Hair Care has a solution!

They so kindly sent us a few goods to give a try.  First up, detangling shampoo + conditioner and detangling conditioner.  My girls have always just used whatever was pink and smelled good….those were their prerequisites.  We haven’t ever used a detangling shampoo and we were AMAZED at how well it worked!  Not only did it smell sweet, but it left my girl’s hair smooth and tangle free straight out of the shower.  We were even able to run a fine toothed comb through their hair!  Once they were done with their showers, we gave their hair a few squirts of detangling spray.  Again, it smelled sweet, like a little girls hair should smell.  If their hair had any teensy tiny tangle left after the shampoo/conditioner, the spray took care of it!  We blew it dry without any problems (or tangles).  I noticed that once their hair was dry, it was so full of body and it didn’t have any fly always!  Amazingly, my little girl’s hair looked better than mine, which I had used nice shampoo/condition on.  Which made me think, if it works for them, why not me!?  I lathered and rinsed and added conditioner and was amazed at how smooth my hair was as I applied the conditioner.  Since my hair is so long, the shampooing usually leaves me with some pretty good tangles.  I didn’t notice them so much this time.  Once The conditioner was rinsed out, there wasn’t a tangle to be found!  I was shocked!!  I added the spray and it took care of the fly-aways, too. I usually have to add some kind of serum to tame my mane, but not this time!!  I was incredibly impressed!  (Mia was not thrilled about me taking her picture…but I couldn’t pass it up because her hair was SO smooth straight out of the shower!)

They have a bunch of other products as well.  They specialize in Lice prevention and removal…hope we never have to worry about that!!  They also have Sun and Surf products to help keep hair healthy in the summer and the pool.  That is one product I would love to see in action.  My girls get a serious case of pool hair in the summer :(

101 Uses!! {Clearly Emu Oil Review and Giveaway}

Who knew a little bottle of Emu Oil could have so many uses?  Before I got this incredible product, I couldn’t have given you ONE use for Emu Oil.  I had never heard of it, but was thrilled to give it a try!  I initially thought that I would use this product mainly as a face oil.  I used it every morning for a couple of weeks and started to notice the over all quality of my skin was starting to improve.  I began to wonder what else I could use this incredible product for. I got on the web site and found a fantastic list of common uses for the Emu Oil.  It was only about an hour later when I was making cookies that we needed the magic formula!  Mia hit her arm on the cookie tray that I had just pulled out of the oven.  With one little drip of oil on her arm, the pain faded and there was no blistering or continued pain came later.  I was amazed!  I noticed my dog had a rash on his belly…Emu Oil to the rescue!  After a few days and a few drops of oil, rash gone!   I also used it as a bath oil, adding a few drops to a my bath as I filled the tub.  I came out soft and smooth!  My favorite use was using it as a scalp treatment and a hair treatment.  I simply applied a few drips in my part and rubbed it into my scalp.  Then, thinking I could use a little more pampering, I added a few drops to the palm of my hand smoothed the rest of my hair.  I put it in a bun and let it “set” over night.  In the morning BAM!  Fabulous Hair!!

Naturally Clean {Clorox Green Works review}

 

I love the feeling of a sparkling clean house. I love how calming the effect is, how clean it smells, but unfortunately not how long it stays clean. With a toddler ruling the roost, it seems that the clean house feeling lasts… until he wakes up from his nap, which is usually when I get to clean. Healthy and Homemade {Mumi & Bubi solids starter kit review}

 

When my little munchkin was born… well, even before he was born, I decided I was going to go the homemade baby food route. I remember feeding my little sister (ten years my junior) jarred baby food and thinking how horrible it looked and smelled… I never had the courage to actually taste it! Maybe that’s where the seed was planted, in my 10 yr. old brain! :-) Needless to say, when the time came for my own child, I decided I wanted to make my own. I had a solid starter kit on my baby registry but never received  it and never went back to get it. When the time for solids rolled around, I just used ice cube trays or cookie sheets. It worked OK, but I always had to remember to go back within a couple hours and put all the cubes and “piles” in zip-lock freezer bags to they didn’t get freezer burned. The other thing I didn’t like about the cookie trays, and I used them more because I only had a couple ice cube trays, is that I could never tell exactly how much each pile had. I eyeballed it hoped for the best. Too much and it was wasted (and I HATED to waste food I had put effort into!), too little and baby was still hungry, but not hungry enough for another whole pile…. you see the dilemma. Well, I am happy to say that for the next time around, I will be prepared! I recently had the opportunity to check out an awesome solids starter kit from Mumi & Bubi. I tried one of these before I hit the gym one day. So Long, Stinker! {NOse Offense Review}

I have a dog.  She is the cutest little thing in the whole world.  Max and I hang out every day after work.  She loves to go for walks, eat treats, and play with her toys.  She is a great little buddy and always so happy.

We got Max from a pet store.  There, they started to potty train her by having a litter box in her living area.  This was the first time I had ever seen a dog litter box trained.  My husband and I both work fill time so after getting Max we decided to continue litter box training her so she could go potty while we were gone for 8 hours.  Little dogs have little bladders and we didn’t think she could hold it the whole time we were at work.

As silly as it sounds we love having Max litter box trained.  We don’t have to wake up to take her outside in the middle of the night.  We don’t have to freeze in the cold so she can go potty in the winter.  Max just goes and does her thing when she needs to.  BINGO!

The only bummer part is, like cats, unless we keep her litter box clean, you can smell that we have a litter box trained dog.  Not always a glamorous smell.  We constantly clean it out and a lot of times we have to do it right away.

Max smells normal again!!  We love this product!

The best part is we don’t have to clean the litter box ASAP anymore.  After Max goes potty we just spray once and we are good to go.  Now we only clean her box at the end of the day.  What a time saver!  Ideal for a gagging pregnant woman too!  Makes it easier for me, plus, I don’t gag on the smell…because there isn’t one!

Lullaby… and goodnight… {Sleepbamboo pillowcases Review}

AHHH…. a good night’s sleep! When you have a baby, how often does that happen? If you are like some of my friends, your baby is an angel and sleeps through the night at 2-3 months…. sadly that was NOT my reality. My little munchkin didn’t start sleeping through the night until about 8-9 months, and then he still sometimes woke up because OF COURSE that is during teething!! Is there ever any rest for the weary? I am happy to say he now (at 12 months) sleeps great through the night… he goes down by nine and sleeps until 8:30 the next day. Unfortunately, Mom here usually stays up way too late catching up on all the important useless things she could do tomorrow instead. I’ve been trying to set a goal of being in bed by 10:30. Well, last night it actually happened!  I got hours of uninterrupted sleep! And you know what made it even better?? I spent my night with my head snuggled in my sleepbamboo pillowcases! Bamboo fabric can adjust to your body temperature. It has millions of micro gaps in the fiber making it one the fasting wicking fabrics available, those millions of micro gaps make our bamboo sheets much more breathable than any fine cotton sheet. Bamboo fibers are naturally anti-microbial,only 100% bamboo textiles contain an agent called ‘bamboo kunh’ this agent prevents bacteria from cultivating. It is one of the best fibers known to the bedding world for people who suffer from allergies to bed or dust mites.

When cotton sheets heat up they retain much more moisture than bamboo sheets so bacteria is quick to form, tests have shown bed mites can form on our sheets in just hours after lying on them, bamboo will KILL bed mites like nothing else can   (actually the sun is the best thing) this leaves your sheets feeling fresh and odor free for much longer than any cotton sheet can. So you will only need to wash your bamboo sheets half as much as you do your cotton sheets.

I have to say I am in love with these pillowcases! I love the beautiful “nougat” color I picked. And they are so silky soft! I have a silk pillowcase and have a hard time feeling any difference between the two! I also love that it is a product that is so sustainable, which makes me feel even better!
