As I’ve learned from my own experience, the need for maternity clothes doesn’t end with the baby being born. Sometimes women forget that they’ll need clothing for nursing as well. It’s equally important to think about clothing after the birth as before the birth. Luckily, there are some good choices for both.

As far as before the birth goes, there are several individual components and outfits that I’ve tried. One of the main things I’ve found is that it’s tough to find a dress suitable for the pregnant woman, and yet not too old-fashioned looking. I just hate how clothing for pregnant women is often so floral. That’s one aspect about Vertbaudet, the French baby, children’s and maternity clothing company is that they offer contemporary looking clothing for the expectant mother. There are several dresses offered by this company, and one of the models I found most comfortable was the Maternity Sweatshirt-dress. This is a sleeveless number, and I think the reason why it was so cosy is because it’s made entirely out of organic cotton fleece. There are eyelets in the mid-section of this dress, which is how you loosen and tighten it. That flexibility of fit made this dress really easy to put on at various stages in my pregnancy.

Another big hit with me from Vertbaudet was the rather plainly named Maternity Dress. This dress comes in a dark grey/green colour, and I think the short sleeve design is really cute. There are also pockets at the front.

The Maternity Tunic is yet another dress-like offering that gave me a flexible fit. This is because the waistband is elastic, so that no size is too big for this dress. Let me tell you, when you’re right in the thick of your pregnancy, having clothes that still fit can be pretty good for the old self-esteem.

Having a top to wear while nursing is so important, and the options offered by Vertbaudet helped to make my nursing experience less painful than it could have been. Most of the tops that Vertbaudet offers for nursing are in the t-shirt style, though there are also long sleeve options available. That being said, the tops for breastfeeding are all referred to as t-shirts on the company website. The convenient thing about the Vertbaudet Breastfeeding T-shirt is that it also has a flexible fit, so that even once I started losing weight the top wasn’t hanging off me. For the comfort factor, I preferred the 100% cotton version, which came in white. The sleeveless versions come in grey dark solid, purple light solid and black dark solid colours.

Another offering from Vertbaudet that I found really comfortable, as well as stylish, is the Maternity “Before and after” nightdress & cardigan outfit. This outfit’s title refers to the fact that it can be worn both before and after the baby is born. In other words, the fit is flexible like the aforementioned t-shirts. Because this outfit has a nightdress design, I felt confident wearing it out. The ties on the sweater help to make it feel more modern. Both grey and grey dark solid colours are available for this outfit.

Vertbaudet also offers a set of pyjamas that are specifically designed to be worn both during and after the pregnancy. These pyjamas are 97% cotton, which helped to make the fit comfortable against my skin.

As is to be expected, the maternity clothes that I’ve discussed here are just the small selection that I had a chance to try. There are lots more options for the pregnant and nursing mother out there.
