Think about you baby’s room. What is in it that could make it safe? What is in it that could make it unsafe? As a soon to be mommy I am learning what “safe” and “unsafe” means. One thing I have learned is that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says bumpers in a baby’s crib is a no no. When you remove bumpers from the crib you help reduce the chance of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) by ridding the baby’s area of things that could cause suffocation, entrapment and asphyxia.
Some other sleep recommendations from AAP includes:

Always place your baby on his/her back to sleep.

Always use a firm sleep surface. Carseats and other sitting devices are not recommended for routine sleep.

Baby should sleep in the same ROOM but not the same BED with parents.

Keep soft objects or loose bedding out of baby’s bed.

Avoid wedges or positioners.

Offer a pacifier at sleep times.

Don’t let your baby get too hot.
