It’s finally looking more and more like Spring. The grass is turning green and we have been spending more time outside. Last Saturday I “addressed” all the dead plants in my yard that I didn’t get to last fall. And with weather this nice, we’ve been opening the windows and curtains, which always gets me in the mood to do some Spring cleaning. Speaking of Spring cleaning, this time of year also gets me in the mood to “Spring clean” my eating and exercise habits. With short sleeve, skirt and swimsuit season around the corner, it’s definitely that time of year to kick things up a notch. I will admit that I still haven’t gotten into a good exercise routine since Lady was born…almost 8 months ago! I know! I really need to get with it. And things are so crazy around here that sometimes I feel like eating takes a backseat too. I’ve been doing green smoothies daily, which is usually my breakfast and lunch. Thankfully when I’m on the run or don’t have time to sit down to real meal, I usually just grab a Balance Bar to fill in. I’ve been hooked on the Mint Cookie Crunch for quite some time, but recently my friends over at Balance Bar sent me an assortment of Dark Chocolate Crunch, Dark Chocolate Coconut, and Dark Chocolate Peanut to try. They are awesome! Peanut likes “Mommy’s granola bars” too…I only let him have a bite or two! (I still love Mint the best though! 🙂 They are JUST like Girl Scout cookies without the guilt and I’m a sucker for mint!) Tucked in my box was also some JR Watkins White Tea & Bamboo All Purpose Cleaner and Hand Soap to help get me in the mood to clean! I love the fresh crisp scent of these. Balance Bars are perfect to tuck into your purse, diaper bag gym bag, Hubby’s gym bag, brief case or cooler and are perfect because they are perfectly balanced with nutrients coming from 40% carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fat.
Are you in the mood for some internal Spring Cleaning? To help get you started, check out these tips from registered dietician Sharon Richter:
Step 1: Empty everything from your food pantry. It’s okay to start with a mess and you’ll be surprised what’s hiding in there!
Step 2: Throw away anything that has expired, has been open for more than a couple weeks or you know you’re just not going to use.
Step 3: Organize everything by category – snacks, meal starters, nuts and dried fruits, oils/dressings, cereal and carbs, etc.
Step 4: Check the labels. Here are a couple ingredients you simply shouldn’t have in any foods: hydrogenated oil, HFCS, MSG
Step 5: Make sure you have plenty of portion controlled snacks readily available and at the front of the pantry. You tend to eat more of what is eye-level or easily accessible. I always stock up on Balance Dark Bars.
And to help get you motivated even more, be sure to join in on the upcoming live, one hour Balance Bar Twitter Chat hosted by @BalanceBar and @TheRichterReco on Thursday, March 20th at 3 PM ET. #SpringIntoBalance
And if that’s not enough, Balance Bar is giving away the same awesome
