Don’t you just hate when a casserole or pie boils over onto the bottom of your oven? It means yucky baked on mess that can be hard to clean if you don’t get to it right away. I was baking an apple pie a few weeks back, and although I put a cookie sheet under it, somehow the gooey sugar syrup boiled onto the bottom of my oven and within seconds smoke smelled up my home. I used a spatula and water to get the majority of the gunk up and stop the smell, but was left with a crusty stain when the oven cooled. Wouldn’t it have been nice to have a product that contained the mess and pulled out of the oven to clean, rather than making me get on my hands and knees to scrub with my head in the oven?!
Well, fortunately for me I now have a COOKINA Gard Oven Protector. It is a toxin-free, easy-to-use product that helps home cooks keep the oven clean with minimal effort. Retailing for $12.99, it is a small investment that can save you from an achy back and keep the inside of your oven spotless. “The Cookina Oven Gard is made of a composite Fluoro Polymer plastic combining two extremely high-grade compounds coated and encapsulated around a fabric carcass.” ~ Cookina. (Basically, a non-stick material…..for us non-scientific types:).
Safe up to 500 degrees in both home-based electric and gas ovens. My oven doesn’t have a heating element on the bottom, so I simply placed the Cookina Gard Oven Protector down, after giving it an initial washing per instructions. If I would have had an element down there, I would have placed the Cookina under the element. In a gas situation it would have been placed on the lower rack rather than the bottom to avoid covering holes inside the oven. The Cookina Gard can be cut to size if you have a smaller oven. When I used my oven for the first time, I expected to smell some type of odor from the Oven Gard but I didn’t. When a spill occurs in my oven, I simply remove the Gard and wash it with the included scour pad and soap. No harsh abrasives needed. Easy as pie!
