Yesterday was a crazy busy day. It was a typical Saturday- the girls played softball, all the kids played with neighbors, I ran a half marathon (not a typical thing), and the hubby had to work. I was in no mood to cook. I didn’t want to make anything and I really didn’t care what my kids had for dinner. They found some frozen dinners in the freezer, so that was dinner. Mia picked fish sticks with mac and cheese and chocolate pudding. I helped her heat it up and it was all I could do to let her eat it. Looked disgusting. She had 1 bite and she was done. Nothing special. All I could think about was how it compared to the premade meals that I have eaten over the last few days. I was given the amazing opportunity to try out the food from Freshology. I was sent 2 full days of meals. I got breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. All of which were gluten free. I am not allergic to gluten , neither is anyone else in my family. In all honesty, I have a terrible opinion of “gluten free” foods. I have a friend who is gluten free and I always feel bad for the crappy food he has to eat while the rest of us are eating something delish. Over the last couple of days, I have changed my mind about “gluten free.” It doesn’t have to be dry and disgusting. In fact every single meal that I ate was amazing. I tried to be a nice wife and let my hubby eat a couple of the meals. So we each had a breakfast. He had scrambled eggs with cheese, chicken apple sausage, and fresh fruit. I had apricot and almond oatmeal, turkey bacon, and strawberries. Both were to be served warm. Josh heated his up, but since I had the convenience of taking mine to work with me, I choose to eat mine cold. I thought it was amazing–even cold! I expected to oatmeal to be dry and stick to your mouth, throat and sit in your guts for hours. Not at all. The flavor was AMAZING! The bacon was soft and thick…I ate it cold, too- still great! The lunches we got were southwest steak lettuce cups with corn and black bean salsa and Middle Eastern inspired lentil salad with cucumber-mint dressing. I ate the lettuce cups and Josh had the salad. Mine was amazing, once again. I actually ate mine for dinner one night when the rest of the family was having tomato sandwiches (out of the garden!). I know that it is listed as a lunch, but I was plenty full after eating it for dinner. There was plenty of filling for the lettuce cups, so I used so chips and scooped the rest out. I didn’t want to waste anything!
The dinners were my very favorite! The first was chicken fajitas with onions and peppers. It is severed with rice and beans. Holy YUM! It was amazing! The chicken was moist and very flavorful. I was so full by the time I was done eating. I know I didn’t do everything I was supposed to, because I took mine for lunch to work. I love the way that the meals are packaged. They are so simple to grab the package out of the fridge and take it with you. I never worried about them leaking or spilling. My very favorite meal was the Shrimp Crusted Barramundi, Black Rice, with Ponzu Glazed Mushrooms . I don’t even know what half of those ingredients are, but I could eat this meal every day! I kid you not, it was comparable to dinner at a fancy restaurant. The fish was fantastic and the mushrooms are to die for! I wasn’t sure I would like the rice, but I loved it! There wasn’t anything about this meal that I would have changed. I also took this as a lunch to work. The other girls at work were so jealous of my “gourmet” meal while they ate PB&J. I tried to be a good friend and let them have a little taste, but inside I was thinking “get away from my yummy food!”
I was also sent a couple of desserts. These I choose to share with my gluten free friend. We went to a BBQ and I was in charge of bringing a dessert. Since I don’t cook gluten free, I thought I would share. He had the coconut cookies and a chocolate cupcake. Though he doesn’t love coconut, he enjoyed the cookies. He says that the cupcake was good, but the icing was fantastic! He really liked both desserts and it great that he had a yummy dessert option, too.
All in all, I was extremely happy with every product that was delivered to my door. Oh, the delivery….I forgot to mention that! The food is shipped a couple of times a week, so your meal is always as fresh as possible. My meals came in a cooler type box full of ice packs. Everything was very fresh and cold when it got here. I wouldn’t change a thing!
